THE STORY
Abby and Waz envisioned a destination wedding that felt less like a formal event and more like an unforgettable experience shared with the people they love most. Their goal wasn’t simply a wedding day—it was creating an entire week where friends and family could come together, explore, celebrate, and make memories that would last a lifetime.

When we first began planning, Costa Rica was their dream destination. As we explored venues and reviewed the realities of hosting a destination wedding there, rising costs made it difficult to achieve the intimate, experience-focused celebration they envisioned. Having personally traveled throughout Belize and experienced everything it has to offer, I suggested they consider a destination that often flies under the radar but delivers incredible value, adventure, and natural beauty.

The moment Belize entered the conversation, everything began to fall into place.

Nestled along the banks of the Macal River and surrounded by lush rainforest, Sweet Songs Jungle Lodge offered exactly what Abby and Waz were searching for: an intimate, private setting where their guests could stay together, connect with one another, and enjoy an authentic destination wedding experience. The resort provided the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, exclusivity, and breathtaking scenery while allowing them to maximize their wedding budget without sacrificing the guest experience.

What made this celebration particularly special was that it became so much more than a wedding day. Guests spent the week exploring the Belizean jungle, floating down the Macal River, enjoying local cuisine, and building friendships that continued long after the trip ended. By the time the wedding day arrived, everyone felt like part of one big family.

Their ceremony itself was a beautiful reflection of Belize’s rich culture and traditions. Alongside their legal ceremony, Abby and Waz incorporated a traditional Belizean shaman blessing, creating a meaningful and memorable experience not only for themselves but for all of their guests. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest, the ceremony felt deeply personal, authentic, and uniquely tied to the destination they had chosen.

From the initial destination selection and travel planning to coordinating alongside the on-site resort team, I had the privilege of helping bring every detail together. I was also honored to serve as the wedding’s Master of Ceremonies, guiding guests through the celebration and ensuring the day flowed seamlessly so Abby and Waz could focus on what mattered most—celebrating with the people they love.

What started as a search for the perfect destination ultimately became a week-long Belize adventure filled with connection, laughter, and unforgettable memories. It’s a perfect example of how being open to a different destination can sometimes lead to an even better experience than originally imagined.
